Each course involves:

 

·         Face to face learning

·         Written assessments

·         Practical assessment or verification in the workplace

·         Work experience

 

These courses are part-time unless otherwise stated.

 

National Certificate in Support of the Older Person - Level 3

Modules include:

 

·         Communication skills

·         Infection control

·         Human anatomy and physiology

·         Common diseases and disorders

·         Personal care

·         Cleaning

·         Safe food handling

·         Care of the terminally ill

·         Listening techniques

·         Stress and time management

·         Personal wellness

·         Recognising sexual harassment

·         Cultural sensitivity

·         First aid

·         Dementia Care

 

Residential and community care options are available. 

 

 

National Certificate in Community Support Services Foundation Skills - Level 2

Modules include:

 

·         Infection control

·         Personal management

·         Safety and security

·         Medication management

·         Supporting consumers

·         Rights and responsibilities

·         Transfer and handling people and equipment

·         Role of a support worker

·         Consumers wellbeing and quality of life

 

 

Other Courses (not NZQA unit based)

 

·         Medication Management

·         Spinal Injury

·         Treaty of Waitangi

 

Classes have a maximum of 15 students, and a minimum of seven. Recognition of prior learning and/or recognition of current competency are available to those who have experience/and or qualifications in the support industry. We offer pastoral care for trainees in need of support.

 

Trainees who select the Residential Care option in the National Certificate in Support of the Older Person may also apply for the Residential Care Association Badge and Certificate.
